Trophy Bass 2

Trophy Bass 2 (Sierra On-Line), like its predecessor Trophy Bass, is that rare simulation designed for people who don’t want to rule the world from their study. Most simulations challenge the type-A home dictator to create and run a society, be it in the future, the past, or the present. The few exceptions to this rule generally present some action-oriented contest, like all those Lion and Wolf simulations. Trophy Bass 2, in sharp contrast, is a mellow diversion that demands neither anal retentiveness nor extreme aggressiveness. Choose a lake, a section of the lake, a casting method, and a lure. Then you can get down to what the program is all about: casting, reeling in, and casting again. A lot of time can pass without so much as a nibble, which makes this one of the most relaxing CD-ROMs around (Microsoft Golf, with its similar soundtrack of twittering birds and croaking frogs, is a close second). When you do get a bite, the action begins. For a few heart-pounding seconds you reel the thing in, making sure to give it enough slack that your line doesn’t break. Then it’s over, and everything’s calm once again. There are tournament and career options, in case you want to make it into a competition, and helpful video advice that teaches lessons which translate to real bass fishing. You can also cast manually, for added realism, and let the little ones go. The differences between this disc and the first Trophy Bass are skimpy, but that doesn’t make it any less enjoyable. When you’re completely stressed out, Trophy Bass 2 is one of the few games that might actually help you calm down.
