Reviews About Old Software on CD-ROM from the 1990’s

Lassie Come Home March 12, 2009

Lassie Come Home

Lassie Come Home (ages 3 & up) and The Secret Garden (ages 3 & up) are “movie books” brought to you by Sound Source Interactive. The theory here is that, if you loved the movie/video or the book, you’ll love the CD-ROM. Wrong! To begin with, there’s no advantage to watching a movie in a tiny window on a computer screen, particularly when it’s dark, blurry, and grainy. Secondly, if all you get is a narrated text, very minimal animation, and the occasional poor video clip, there’s no point to having it on computer. True, you do get a question at the end of each chapter, and a piece of a puzzle (one piece per chapter), but that just isn’t enough. Our reviewers had no interest in using these discs a second time.
