Casper’s Brainy Book March 11, 2009

Casper’s Brainy Book

Casper’s Brainy Book (Knowledge Adventure) takes the venerable art of the interactive storybook and executes it with heretofore unseen panache. Although the basic dynamic of watching a page being read and then clicking on it to find hidden animations may quickly become tiresome for adults, the product is not intended for adults; it can, in fact, be customized to three age levels, all between four and eight. The story is catchy – Casper needs a friend and Kat, who has just moved into Wipstaff Manor with her father, fills the bill. There are a ton of hotspots on every page, and although most of the animations don’t vary on multiple clickings, the ones that are here usually contain two or three distinct parts, and often display wit that got our young reviewers cackling with glee. There’s some scary stuff, too, but this can be disabled with the age customizer at the program’s start. Fans of the movie, and even of the original comic book and cartoon series, will find something here to keep them happy.
