Chicka Chicka Boom Boom
We could simply say: “Chicka Chicka Dud Dud,” but let’s be a bit more clear. As a book, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom is a cute read. As a CD-ROM, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom (Davidson/Simon & Schuster – ages 3-6) is a big disappointment. The main feature of CD-ROM is the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom song. You can play this one song on your CD player. You can hear this one song in several of the six simple-minded activities introduced by five less-than-engaging youngsters. There is minimal animation throughout the disc. Click on big or little “A” and you’ll hear “A,” and so on. This will bore even the youngest kids. In “Read-Along” you can hear Ray Charles read – not sing – 15 pages of alphabet rhymes. He does a great job, but it’s hard to imagine a more underused star. Then again, how many 3 to 6 year olds know who he is anyway? They will know when they’ve had enough, though.
