Hymns: A Treasury of Stories and Anecdotes
Music is often an integral part of religious experience and hymns are a common part of many services. Hymns: A Treasury of Stories and Anecdotes (Quanta) offers information on more than 100 Christian hymns. Unfortunately, for most of us, hearing the hymn is how we best enjoy it and there’s not much chance for that in this title. You can read about a hymn, print out the selection, perform searches, and use the “Bookmark” and “History” features. Most hymns have no audio and only about a half page of information on the author. Much of the audio is just a reading of the text, but occasionally you get to hear a hymn, although it may be spoken rather than sung. There is no lyric list and no credits for the performers. In addition, typos and contradictions between the printed text and the voice-overs further weaken the content. This CD-ROM does not provide an uplifting experience.
