Alistair and the Alien Invasion

Alistair and the Alien Invasion (Simon & Schuster Interactive – ages 5 to 10) has some A+ features and some B- ones. On the plus side, the graphics and animation are exceptional. You can rotate the screen 360 degrees to see the every side of a room. This is a very neat tool. That aside, you’re left with a cute 14-page story about Alistair, a proper English schoolboy, and something of a genius, who is visited by aliens. You’ll find “Read to Me” and “Read and Explore” sections, the requisite hotspots, five original songs, and a short, easy game. Here comes the old refrain: there could and should be much more. But, compared to many discs, this one is a lot closer to what an interactive book should be.
