America’s Best Bed & Breakfasts
If villas and resorts are out of your league, how about a B & B? America’s Best Bed & Breakfasts (Micro Star Software) purports to be a multimedia guide to all the little gems scattered throughout North America, but you’d better hold on to your paperback guide. The bulk of the disc is a database of “Brief” listings with only the name, address, phone, and owner, making it of limited value. The “Detailed” listings are not much better. You’ll find basic information like rates, children and/or pets permitted, amenities (pool, Jacuzzi, etc.) complemented by meager photos or drawings and sketchy maps. Accompanying blurbs are provided by the B & B owners, so don’t expect to find a critical word here. Finally, you’d better narrow your search because B & Bs in many parts of the country are barely represented – two for the entire state of Montana and only those in Anchorage for all of Alaska. There’s absolutely nothing on this CD-ROM that any number of books don’t do better.
