Mr. Potato Head Saves Veggie Valley
Mr. Potato Head is hot again, thanks to Don Rickles and Toy Story. Now comes Mr. Potato Head Saves Veggie Valley (Playskool Software/ Hasbro Interactive - ages 3-7). You guide spudface and his daughter Sweet Potato all around Veggie Valley, ultimately ending up at the Country Fair. Your mission is to entice a storm cloud back home with you, so that your parched garden (and starving children) get wet, while the fair gets to stay dry. Graphics are big and stupid, which is also an accurate description of game play: explore everything and you’re bound to win eventually, though it may take awhile. You need to collect certain objects, trade them for other objects, and bring everything to the right place. Along the way you’ll play simplified versions of pinball and Go Fish, and dress in disguises to get past various roadblocks. The dress-up part of the program harks back to the original Potato Head concept, and you can do it anywhere, anytime, just for fun. Change eyes, nose, feet, glasses, wigs, etc. Mr. Potato Head is fun and simple, and although it’s almost a bit too simple for its own good, a jazzy soundtrack and some clever animations save the day.
